Right here, opposite the church, there is a cycling point from which the most cycle routes in Slovakia originate. The cycling routes around Žilina, Terchová, and Bystrická dolina are tailor-made for families with children and the most demanding cyclists alike.

Here you can experience and see limestone peaks, a beautiful mountain ridge with grassy summits, endless meadows and forests full of rare plants and animals, clear streams and rivers, the famous Jánošík's Holes with their stunning waterfalls and ladders, the magnificent Šútovo Waterfall, and the surreal Tiesňavy with their unique rock formations.

Wooden nativity scene

A unique carved wooden nativity scene is located in the foyer of St. Cyril and Methodius Church in the centre of the village of Terchová.

Juraj Jánošík Museum

Right in the centre of Terchová, in the Municipal Office building, you'll find a museum exhibition on the 1st floor dedicated to the development of the village and its most famous native – Juraj Jánošík.

Bell tower in Maruni

The belfry is just one of the stops on the Jánošíkov chotár Educational Trail. The entire educational trail takes approximately 6 hours to complete, but if you fancy a shorter trip, a walk to this belfry could be just the thing.

Jánošík Days

The performances take place in the amphitheatre Nad Bôrami, in Vrátna valley and around the village, where folk art, traditions and crafts are presented. Since 1991, the festival has had an international character. In 2018, the festival was visited by a record 82,000 visitors. The festival usually includes a Holy Mass and a traditional decorated horse procession with folk musicians heading into Vrátna valley.

Slovak Astronomical Clock

Another of Slovakia's BEST is taking home the most accurate astronomical clock in the world and the only astronomical clock in Slovakia. The composition of the astronomical clock represents a seated Madonna, the Virgin Mary of Sorrows, the patron saint of Slovakia. The shaping of the work in shingle construction was made possible by 80 wooden arms that form the skeleton of the astronomical clock. In the niches of the astronomical clock, you will find six bronze sculptures. The heart of the astronomical clock is an astrolabe, i.e. a dial with astronomical data. It is precisely the astrolabe that makes the Slovak Astronomical Clock in Stará Bystrica the only and first astronomical clock in Slovakia. Without an astrolabe, an astronomical clock cannot be an astronomical clock.

Janosikove diery gorges

Just a few minutes from Hotel Diery is the Vratná valley, which offers a wide range of slopes, perfect for both beginner and advanced skiers.

Veľký Rozsutec

The most photographed peak in Slovakia. Veľký Rozsutec has become a symbol of the mountain range and is also featured in the logo of the Malá Fatra national park. In the past, it was rumoured that gold was found around the summit, and there's a legend about Jánošík's hidden treasure.

Orava Snow

A 40-minute car journey from Hotel Diery lies a great resort for families with children. Orava Snow in Oravská Lesná offers two separate hills. Kohútik is the steeper hill, intended for more demanding skiers, and Lehotská, with two separate slopes, is suitable for recreational skiers and families with children.
